SUMMARY:"The Year to Save the Earth" - Musician Jim Scott
DESCRIPTION:Composer\, guitarist\, and singer Jim Scott brings a musical and multimedia experience to UU Meeting House. Jim's lyrical songs of ecology are illustrated by beautiful and striking projected images. "The Year to Save the Earth" will be presented on Sunday\, September 1\, 2024\, at 1 pm in the UU Meeting House sanctuary. Mixing powerful songs and beautiful projected images\, Jim Scott takes us from grieving to celebration and from protest to positive vision for the planet along with some fun.\n\n Scott's lyrical melodies and outspoken poetry celebrate what's beautiful\, amazing\, and fragile about our Earth. Facing the urgency of the environmental crisis\, this musical and visual experience challenges us to feel\, to learn\, and to act. \n\n Formerly a member of the Grammy winning Paul Winter consort\, Scott composed their celebrated Missa Gaia/Earth Mass and sang their anthem song Common Ground. He was awarded a National Endowment for the Arts grant to create and present this multimedia concert\, combining hard reality with a note of optimism\, including many invitations to join in the singing. \n\n A longtime friend of folk icon Pete Seeger\, Scott credits Seeger with influencing his musical career choices. Seeger in turn called Scott "Some kind of a magician." Paul Winter said of his colleague: "His music sings of the life spirit." \n\n Scott has toured the world\, recorded nine CDs of original music\, and published a growing line of choral works. Jim also compiled the Earth and Spirit Songbook\, an anthology of 110 songs of Earth by many contemporary composers. To learn more about Jim Scott go to https://www.youtube.com/jimscottmusic or https://jimscottmusic.com/about/\n\n A donation of $20 is suggested. For more information go to www.uumh.net.
