Chatham: Where Memory Lives, A Special Event

Kick off the Fall season at the Atwood Museum on October 24th at 2 o’clock with Where Memory Lives, an in-person event exploring the historic cemeteries, funerary customs, and memorials of Chatham. This event will include a talk with Atwood Museum and Chatham Historical Society Executive Director, Liz Rabideau, on the fascinating history of memorializing lost loved ones in this seaside town, and throughout Cape Cod and Massachusetts. You will learn many details about what it was like to live, die, be remembered throughout the centuries. You will also be some of the first to have access to our new pop-up exhibit, Where Memory Lives, composed of rarely displayed artifacts and records from the Historical Society’s vast collection. Throughout all of this, guests can treat themselves to festive fall snacks like apple cider, donuts, and various other treats. 

Afterwards, you are welcome to join us at Union Cemetery in Chatham for a walk and talk with museum staff where you will explore a historic Chatham cemetery, see significant examples of gravestone art,  and learn all about the lives of various notable Chatham individuals. Tickets are $30. This event is recommended for adults. The Atwood Museum is wheelchair accessible and has parking onsite. However, if you plan to join us for the Union Cemetery portion, please be aware that some walking over grass and uneven surfaces might be required.
