YARMOUTH PORT, MA — Habitat for Humanity of Cape Cod is hosting an online auction featuring two original, 27-foot exterior building signs from the iconic Christmas Tree Shops. Bidding opens on Monday, July 13th and closes on Sunday, August 2nd, 2026.
"For over 50 years, the windmill and thatched roof of the Christmas Tree Shop said ‘welcome home’ to residents and millions of visitors crossing the Sagamore Bridge. Now, collectors, local businesses, historians, and community members have a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to own an authentic piece of Old Cape Cod. We are sincerely grateful to Greg Bilezikian, manager of Turtle Rock LLC, for donating these signs to Habitat Cape Cod, for the purpose of raising funds to help build more affordable homes here on Cape Cod. ," said Wendy Cullinan, President and CEO of Habitat for Humanity of Cape Cod. "Like so many people who live on or visit the Cape, I have happy memories associated with the Christmas Tree Shops. We all know that feeling of walking in for one thing and leaving with a cart full of treasures. There is something sentimental about these signs that touch my heart, and I’m excited knowing these nostalgic pieces of history will help build a brighter future for local families."
Auction proceeds will help Habitat for Humanity of Cape Cod continue building affordable, permanent homes so local families can remain on Cape Cod where they live, work, and go to school. The signs are currently on display at Habitat Cape Cod’s Yarmouth and Falmouth ReStore locations. Interested parties can join the watchlist and place bids by visiting signsofhope.betterworld.org/auctions/signs-hope-christmas-tree-shops, and the public is invited to share a Christmas Tree Shops memory, tradition, or story by visiting the auction’s Facebook event page at facebook.com/share/1BaNFfdBKB.
Habitat for Humanity of Cape Cod has built nearly 200 homes from Bourne to Provincetown. In the summer of 2026, new builds in Brewster, Falmouth, and Pocasset will begin, with additional builds planned over the next few years in Yarmouth, Marstons Mills, Orleans, and North Falmouth. Qualifying families are selected by drawing. Future homeowners contribute sweat equity by helping build their homes alongside local volunteers, then purchase them with an affordable mortgage. Habitat Cape Cod has been nationally recognized for building energy-efficient, affordable homes. All homes are deed-restricted to remain affordable in perpetuity. Habitat Cape Cod relies on the generosity of our community to build affordable homes with local families. To ensure gifts stay local, donors must donate online at habitatcapecod.org or by mail to 411 Main Street, Suite 6, Yarmouth Port, MA 02675.
