CHATHAM, MA — The Town of Chatham is pleased to announce the opening of a new Community Fridge at the Town Office Annex, located at 261 George Ryder Road. The initiative is a collaborative effort between the Chatham Health Division, the Department of Community Services, and Monomoy Community Services.
The Community Fridge is designed to increase access to nutritious food for residents while helping reduce food insecurity within the community. The refrigerator will be available to the public during regular business hours at the Town Office Annex: Monday through Thursday from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon.
Beginning June 30th, the Family Table Collaborative will donate prepared meals on a weekly basis, initially providing approximately 10 meals each week. The number of meals available will be adjusted over time based on community demand and program utilization.
The purchase of the Community Fridge was through Public Health Shared Services funding.
“This project is an important step to address food access needs in our community by providing free, accessible, and nutritious food to anyone in need. We are proud to partner with local organizations, volunteers, and donors who make this important resource possible and strengthen the well-being of our community every day.” said Judith Giorgio, Chatham’s Health Agent.
The Community Fridge initiative is also part of a broader regional effort across the Lower Cape. The Chatham Health Division is working in partnership with the towns of Brewster, Harwich, Orleans, and Eastham, all of which have implemented or are in the process of implementing similar programs. This coordinated regional approach helps expand access to healthy food options, reduce food insecurity, and strengthen support networks for residents throughout the Lower Cape.
Residents seeking additional information about the Community Fridge program may contact the Chatham Health Division at 508-945-5165.
