Eighth Annual Cape Cod Hydrangea Festival
Cape-Wide Summer Garden Celebration
July 8-17, 2022
For the eighth year, gardeners across Cape Cod will ring in the summer season with the Annual Cape Cod Hydrangea Festival, happening July 8-17, 2022. Not just a celebration for the region’s signature bloom, the genus hydrangea, this event encompasses plants of all kinds.
The ten-day summer garden celebration begins July 8th with a burst of blooms, workshops, and fun befitting the Cape’s signature flower. Here is a mini guide to the festival highlights:
Garden Tours
Hydrangea Fest's main attractions are the daily tours of private gardens, each designed and maintained by the individual homeowners and carrying a unique charm. A variety of local nonprofits benefit from the proceeds of each tour. This year’s festival features 70 private gardens, from Falmouth to Provincetown. Garden tours are $5 per person per garden, and each garden is open from 10 am to 4 pm (on the days specified). Be on the lookout for local Plain Air Artists painting in the gardens.
Learn from the best
Visit the exquisite grounds of Heritage Museums & Gardens in Sandwich. When you visit, pick up or download a self-guided tour through the grounds to discover more about Heritage’s eight species of hydrangeas and over 170 exceptional cultivars.
Themed promotions
Peruse hydrangea-inspired artwork, jewelry, clothing, and handbags from local artisans at the Hyannis HyArts Artists Shanties. Check out garden-inspired creations by local artists at an Artisans Faire (July 9) at Soares Flower Garden Nursery in Falmouth.
Ask the experts
If you’ve got stubborn blooms, hydrangea headaches, or are looking for an added burst of inspiration, don’t miss the chance to ask the experts at such events as Heritage’s “Hydrangea University” (July 8), a virtual Happy Hour (July 8) with garden expert C.L. Fornari at Hyannis Country Garden and Lorraine Ballato will present “Success with Hydrangeas” (July 8) at Highfield Hall in Falmouth. Learn how to Design and Install a Native Plant Garden (July 9) with Barnstable Clean Water Coalition and take a Pollinator Pathway Walk along Hyannis Main Street every day during the festival.
Kick Off the Festival with a Bang (or Bloom)
Mingle with other gardeners and those that appreciate them at the celebratory opening night party at Cape Cod Beer in Hyannis (July 7, 6:30-8PM). It’s free to attend and open to the public!
