Celebrating 20 Years of Preservation and Education with a Special Program on Thursday, August 4
CHATHAM, MA – The public is cordially invited to attend the Chatham Marconi Maritime Center’s special 20th Anniversary retrospective at 7:00 PM Thursday, August 4 at the Chatham Community Center, 702 Main Street. The nonprofit Center was officially established in August 2002, and for two decades has promoted 20th century maritime communication history and technology through its museum, and 21st century science through its STEM education programs. Chatham Marconi’s origin is an inspiring story of community commitment and perseverance. On August 4, nine local people who were instrumental in that process will share their memories about how a long-shot community preservation effort led to a purposeful second life for a unique historic site, and the creation of a successful Cape Cod institution. Come celebrate with us, and learn about this interesting and uplifting aspect of Chatham's recent history.
The Center is honored to have partnered with the Town of Chatham in preserving a portion of the North Chatham campus along with its history and the many stories about it that make for a vibrant museum. Education, particularly communications-oriented STEM education for local students, is a cornerstone of the Center’s mission. And this year as the Center celebrates its past accomplishments, it looks forward to serving the community for the next 20 years.
