Monotypes are paintings on smooth acrylic plates transferred to paper once only using a manual press. Each unique impression unites the spontaneity of painting with the radiant qualities of ink imbedded in the fibers of paper. Monotype reveals and informs, narrating a beginning, middle and end of a personal narrative.
Explore experimental and contemporary monotype techniques using spontaneous painting and drawing approaches. using modified oil base inks. The possibilities are endless and provocative. Glistening layers of radiant ink create truly unique images with depth, mystery, memory and intrigue. Brayer painting, digital transfer imagery and direct drawing monotype will be explored, as well as quirks and oddities in nature and layered flat found objects. Bring resource images or sketches to class.
Beginner to advanced students welcome. Materials fee $45 includes paper, inks and modifiers, printmaking studio equipment. Short list of items from home to bring to class. Class held at Zavorskas Studio in South Orleans.
