Keeping Mortgages Local for Future Habitat Cape Cod Homeowners

Keeping Mortgages Local for Future Habitat Cape Cod Homeowners

YARMOUTH PORT, MA - Habitat for Humanity of Cape Cod is thrilled to announce the success of the ongoing partnership with The Cooperative Bank of Cape Cod to keep Habitat Cape Cod homeowners’ mortgages local and expedite the mortgage process for Habitat families. The Cooperative Bank of Cape Cod created a home mortgage product in 2023 with a similar structure to what has previously been offered to Habitat for Humanity of Cape Cod homeowners through the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) and has completed mortgages for recently finished Habitat Cape Cod homes.

The Cooperative Bank of Cape Cod will hold the mortgage for the future homeowners of Habitat for Humanity of Cape Cod’s upcoming Home Builders Blitz Build in Dennis on Jack Delaney Lane. This home will be built during the week of September 23rd by the Home Builders & Remodelers Association of Cape Cod (HBRACC), where its members and associates donate their time, materials, and professional labor to sponsor and build a home in its entirety. Three additional homes will be built on Jack Delaney Lane and are expected to have their walls raised in November. A Community & Volunteer Kickoff event and a Wall Raising Ceremony are anticipated to take place in the fall. The Cooperative Bank of Cape Cod is a major donor and proud supporter of Habitat for Humanity of Cape Cod, donating financially as well as with volunteer efforts through team build days and housing lottery applicant reviews.

Habitat for Humanity of Cape Cod has completed over 180 homes on Cape Cod and is currently building in Brewster, Dennis, and Wellfleet. Additional builds are planned for Yarmouth, Marstons Mills, Falmouth, Brewster, Orleans, and Sandwich. Qualifying families are selected via drawing, and future homeowners contribute sweat equity, helping build their homes alongside local volunteers, then purchase their homes with an affordable mortgage. Habitat Cape Cod has been awarded nationally for building energy-efficient, affordable homes. All homes are deed-restricted to remain affordable in perpetuity. Chatham, Cape Cod Town Resources

One of the older townships on Cape Cod, Chatham was settled in 1656 by William and Anne Busby Nickerson. Incorporated in 1712, the town’s census list now approximates 7,000 residents. Originally a farming community, its inhabitants found deep sea fishing more lucrative; and today, small boat deep sea fishing, as well as shell fishing continue as important maritime industries.

Covering an area of approximately seventeen square miles, Chatham is  a happy combination of past and present — old-fashioned and picturesque, yet affording the best in modern facilities.

Surrounded by water on three sides, Chatham benefits from Mother Nature’s “natural air conditioning” with cool summers, exquisite autumns, and mild winters. It is a comfortable place in which to live year-round, as a summer resident or visit on vacation. We are proud of our community and hope that you will enjoy your stay with us and return often.

Chatham operates under the town meeting form of government. The executive officers are a board of five part-time Selectmen and a Town Manager. The citizens of Chatham enjoy the special benefits of forward-looking zoning and planning, and of both public and private conservation efforts.
