HARWICH, MA - The first Annual Martha Duffy Open Memorial Golf Tournament teed off this September at Cranberry Valley Golf Course, raising an incredible $11,000 to benefit Habitat for Humanity of Cape Cod.
The tournament was created in loving memory of Martha Duffy, an educator, avid golfer, longtime Harwich resident, and devoted Habitat Cape Cod volunteer who passed away in 2024. Martha’s dedication to community, education, and helping others inspired her family and friends to honor her legacy through the game she loved.
Event planner and close friend Cheryl Kelly, along with a team of dedicated volunteers, organized the tournament, which brought together golfers, friends, and supporters from across Cape Cod and as far as Virginia and Florida. Proceeds from the event will directly support Habitat Cape Cod’s mission of building affordable homes in partnership with local families.
“Martha was the kind of person who built more than homes; she built community, hope, and friendships,” said Wendy Cullinan, President and CEO of Habitat for Humanity of Cape Cod. “We are so grateful to everyone who came together to celebrate her memory and help continue the work she cared about so deeply.”
Plans are already underway for the Second Annual Martha Duffy Open Memorial Golf Tournament on Monday, September 21, 2026, at Cranberry Valley Golf Course, which will continue to build on the spirit of generosity and service that defined Martha’s life.
Habitat for Humanity of Cape Cod has built nearly 200 homes from Bourne to Provincetown and is currently completing homes in Dennis and Wellfleet. In 2026, new builds in Falmouth, Brewster, and Pocasset will begin. Additional builds over the next few years are planned for Yarmouth, Marstons Mills, Orleans, and North Falmouth. Qualifying families are selected via drawing. Future homeowners contribute sweat equity by helping build their homes alongside local volunteers, and then they purchase their homes with an affordable mortgage. Habitat Cape Cod has been nationally recognized for building energy-efficient, affordable homes. All homes are deed-restricted to remain affordable in perpetuity. Habitat Cape Cod relies on the generosity of the community to build affordable homes with local Cape Cod families. To ensure gifts stay local, donors must donate online at habitatcapecod.org or via mail to 411 Main Street, Suite 6, Yarmouth Port, MA 02675.
